Logan Model Railroad Club Forced to Vacate

Photo by Bill Fagan - 06/04/2015We were saddened to find out that after 40+ years in the attic of the Souderton Train Station on the former Reading Bethlehem Branch, the Logan Club, without warning, has been ordered to vacate the premises by this August, 2015. We would like to thank the club for generously opening their layout to the attendees of the September, 2014 division meet, and for promoting the hobby of model railroading by opening their club to the public during the holiday season for most of those 40 years.

The May division meet was held in the “Fireplace Room” at the Fairview Village Church on Germantown Pike in Eagleville, PA.

Superintendent Joe Bergmaier was unable attend due to illness, so the business meeting was conducted by Assistant Super Charles Butsch with assistance from Clerk Mark Wallace. The main issues were the election of board members and changes to the bylaws. While ballots were being counted reports were given by Clerk Mark Wallace and Treasurer Howard Kaplan. April Meet Returns to Elkins Park

Our April 9, 2016 division meet returns us to the Elkins Park train station. The exterior station platform is still used as a station stop along SEPTA’s former Reading Line just below Jenkintown. It is still served by the Warminster and West Trenton Lines although the Lansdale/Doylestown trains pass by as well. There was a periodic variety of commuter passenger trains every few minutes either stopping or running by.

Our March 14, 2015 division meet took us to a new venue, the Elkins Park train station, where we gathered in the recently restored waiting room. The exterior station platform is still used as a station stop along SEPTA’s former Reading Line just below Jenkintown. With the holidays behind us, Philadelphia Division members traveled this past January 10th to the Haddon Township High School to join with our hosts, the New Jersey Division, for a morning filled with a variety of model railroading activities.

The morning’s program, known as “Works-in-Progress,” was a repeat of a multiple, mini-clinic format that has been utilized at various meets over the past several years, and also at the MER’s 2010 Princeton Junction Convention. This Fan Trip from Philadelphia 30th Street Station to Harrisburg will take place on November 8th, 2014. It will be done with Amtrak equipment. It will travel over Old Reading Main Line tracks. The plan is for It to run from Philadelphia 30th Street Station to Reading. There it will run over city tracks to where The Outer Station once stood.
